James Dustin

James started working for the New Media Center in late 1996 as a student lab assistant. In 2000 he began working full-time as the Center's Operations Coordinator. James is responsible for the maintenance of over 190 computers in Torgersen Hall, spread between three classrooms and the open lab area of the NMC. This includes 10 servers and 66 tablets for use as mobile classrooms. James has watched the NMC grow a lot since 1996, to over 4 times the space and 9 times the computers.

James also has worked closely with the Faculty Development Institute, not only providing the maintenance and support for the three classrooms, but also by teaching. The classes he has taught in the past include sessions on Adobe Premiere Pro, Premiere Elements, Final Cut Pro, and DVD Studio Pro. James was also a guest lecturer to visiting faculty from King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia.

In his spare time, James volunteers for both the Blacksburg Fire Department and the Blacksburg Rescue Squad. He has served as a Lieutenant for the Fire Department for four years. James also enjoys hiking, caving, working on his truck, and riding his motorcycle.
