FAQs

Q:Who can use the lab?
A:Anyone can use the lab for media-related projects. This includes students, faculty, and the public.

Q:Do you have the application Minitab, Mathematica, JMP, etc?
A:The NMC mainly supports multimedia-editing software. For a list of what labs on campus have what software, their location, hours, etc. visit http://www.cclab.vt.edu

Q:How long can I check out a digital still camera?
A:All over-the-counter loans are for a one week period. If you have special needs and require a longer use of the equipment, contact us at newmedia@vt.edu beforehand to arrange an extended loan.

Q:How long can I leave my files on the computers in the lab?
A:Files are kept on the computers for seven days of inactivity: if you continue to work on your files at least once every seven days they will not be deleted. If for some reason you can not make it in within a week of your last activity you can contact the Center before the seven day limit is reached to have your work saved. However, because this is a public lab, we can not guarantee your files will not be accidentally deleted by another lab patron.

Q:How much does it cost to print out something?
A:Printing is provided as a courtesy through a University service, and the price is set by them. Currently it is $0.10 per page b&w, $0.40 per page color. You must have money on your Hokie Passport as the system does not accept cash. If you do not have money on your Hokie Passport and you would still like to print, there
are machines in Squires, Hokie Grill, and West End where you can put money on
your Hokie Passport.

Q:Does the NMC sell and/or provide DVDs and CDs for burning material?
A:No, these need to be provided yourself and can be purchased at the bookstore on campus.
